Standing for transparency.

100% responsibility.

We stand by our actions and are transparent about them. To successfully pursue a goal, you need to know how things currently stand. That is why a fact-based approach is particularly important to us when it comes to sustainability, too. Since 2019, we have been recording our company-wide CO2 emissions (Corporate Carbon Footprint, CCF), with the aim of using these figures as the basis for continuously improving our climate footprint. We take a similarly systematic approach at the product level, too. We have joined forces with a scientific institute to develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our entire product range. By conducting our own life cycle assessment as per DIN EN 15084, we have once again obtained verifiable data and unambiguous facts. In the future, we will document and publish our activities in sustainability reports – in accordance with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), of course. Furthermore, the transparency and international comparability of our sustainable corporate governance is recognised with a number of certificates and seals awarded by independent service providers.

We believe in established standards: ISO certifications.

At SIEGENIA, we attach great importance to ensuring that all the requirements for effective and sustainable corporate governance are combined in an integrated management system (IMS). We are guided in this by established international standards, and we always focus on how to implement them in such a way as to optimise the benefits for SIEGENIA. By having our IMS independently certified, we ensure that we are continuously improving. This is how we establish and cultivate mutual trust with our business partners.

Quality management system

Our quality management system (QMS) ensures that our products always satisfy our customers' requirements, comply with statutory provisions and meet safety standards. Consistent compliance with these requirements is the cornerstone of our longstanding competitive strength and our market success. Our QMS defines our policy on quality and the goals we want to achieve. Throughout the entire product development process, we continuously monitor whether we are delivering on these. A comprehensive system of performance indicators and reports helps us to take action and make adjustments as needed.

Environmental management system

Our environmental management system (EMS) is designed to minimise the environmental impact of our business activities. We consider the entire product life cycle – from the sourcing of raw materials right through to disposal or recycling. In addition to the targets and measures for achieving these targets, another central element of our environmental management system is the consideration of environmental aspects such as pollutant emissions, water discharges and energy use. Identifying and evaluating these aspects allows us to see where we can further improve our environmental performance. The environmental programme that has been developed for this purpose includes appropriate measures and helps us to comply with environmental regulations and to meet the expectations of our customers and business partners in terms of sustainable corporate governance.

Management system for occupational health and safety

Sustainability also means ensuring that employees remain healthy and productive for as long as possible in an increasingly ageing society. Our management system for occupational health and safety (OHS-MS) enables us to create the conditions needed for this. In addition to preventing accidents and work-related illnesses through consistent risk management, this also includes involving employees in the design of their workstations to ensure they are as ergonomic as possible, for example. We organise regular ‘health weeks’ with a range of free health-related activities, providing our employees with advice and support to help them lead a healthy lifestyle, both at work and at home. The service is further enhanced by a range of other initiatives such as bike hire, subsidised health classes and assistance with finding the right medical specialist.

Energy management system

Our energy management system (EnMS), which is currently still being developed, aims to improve our energy efficiency and reduce the company's energy consumption. In order to set up the measurement and control system, the main energy consumers are categorised according to energy source and corresponding energy performance indicators are defined. The targets derived from this and the measures implemented to achieve these targets then help to continuously improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

Our most important sustainability KPI: the Corporate Carbon Footprint.

At SIEGENIA, we have been calculating our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) since 2019. This indicator reflects the total volume of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the entire company throughout the value chain. This allows us not only to quantify our impact on greenhouse gas levels, but also to review and adjust our targets for reducing emissions accordingly. The smaller our carbonfootprint, the less damaging our business practices are to the environment.

Figure based on the GHG Protocol

Scope 1

Direct emissions come from gas consumption (for heating, hot water at nearly all sites and process heat for electroplating), heating oil consumption (currently for heating and hot water), coolants/air-conditioning systems and the consumption of fuel by company vehicles and our company fleet.

Scope 2

Indirect energy-related emissions include electricity consumption at all sites and the use of district heating.

Scope 3

Emissions from upstream and downstream in the value chain. The greatest impact here is from the materials purchased, as well as inbound freight shipments and customer logistics. There are also other emissions, such as those generated by waste disposal, by the assembly and use of our products, and by work-related travel.

The chart below shows the trends for all emissions since 2019, expressed as a percentage of the total index value of 100 for the year 2019. The emissions trend from 2020 to 2023 shows the total increase or decrease in emissions compared with the baseline year 2019.

We are transparent – with comprehensive EPDs for
our products.

We established a digital sustainability system back in 2019, which we use to track our carbon footprint across all business units. In addition, the life cycle assessment (LCA) introduced in 2023 demonstrates the importance we place on knowing the precise environmental impact of our products. The Life Cycle Assessment systematically records the environmental impact and energy footprint of each of our products – from production to the end of its service life. This allows us to maximise transparency and identify specific opportunities for improvement. We have assessed all product groups, covering everything from mechanical fittings and motorised drives to the very latest smart products. This Life Cycle Assessment also forms the basis for the Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which have been issued by ift Rosenheim as an accredited provider of the programme for our window hardware and electric drives. Our first published EPDs are already available from the download area – and work is already under way on more EPDs.
